BAPS was founded in 1976 by Russell Grant, now President Emeritus, as a means of bringing together those interested in and actively working in the many different disciplines of New Age teachings. It was the first organisation to encourage Astrologers, Psychics, Mediums, Palmists and Card Readers etc. to come together as a group and share knowledge of esoteric teachings across different skills. It has continued to be a strong voice within the world. BAPS is a member of the Advisory Panel for Astrological Education.

BAPS set about to define to the public what these different disciplines and Subjects are and what is to be expected from a competent professional reader in that field. Membership to the Society is open to those who have an interest in esoteric subjects as Friend Members, as well as those already practicing professionals who wish to be vetted as Consultant Members. Detailed information on membership is available under the Membership tab within the website.

The Consultants within the Society enjoy an excellent reputation for the breadth and quality of their work. They abide by a Code of Ethics and Conduct, as outlined within the Constitution, and are accountable for their work. BAPS Consultants are in all parts of the UK as well as overseas. Aside from their private practice, Consultants can work at BAPS Stands at many well known Festivals around the UK and abroad as well at the many Psychic Fairs and venues throughout the UK. They undertake lectures, work within the media, and run training workshops in their particular discipline(s). Many have separate healing qualifications as well.

In the 1990’s BAPS set up Distance Learning Courses for different disciplines of Esoteric Study, for those who wish to further their knowledge as well as those who potentially wish to become professionals. Friend Members can join these courses and study at their own pace with the help of an assigned Tutor who is a Consultant member of BAPS.
